When a buyer in your city asks ChatGPT, Google, Perplexity or Copilot who to hire, does your business come up? We run a fixed set of buyer prompts for your service and city, record what each tool says, and send you the findings with practical fixes.
It is a manual test of how AI search tools answer the questions your buyers ask. We write a fixed set of prompts based on your primary service and city, run the same prompts in each tool, and report whether your business is mentioned, whether your site is cited, and what the tools say instead. There is no charge for it.
It is useful because these tools increasingly answer the question before anyone clicks a link. If you are not in the answer, or the answer describes you wrongly, a ranking report will not show it.
Which AI search tools does the check cover?
ChatGPT, including answers that use web search.
Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, the AI answers inside Google Search.
Perplexity, which shows its sources alongside each answer.
Microsoft Copilot, which draws on Bing.
What does the report tell you for each prompt?
For every prompt and every tool, we record five things, then summarise the pattern across all of them.
What we check
What we record
Why it matters
Mentioned
Whether your business name appears in the answer at all
If you are not named, the buyer never hears of you from that answer
Cited
Whether one of your own pages is listed as a source
A citation is a link a buyer can click, and it shows which of your pages the tool trusts
Cited URL
The exact page cited, if any
Often it is not the page you would choose, such as an old blog post instead of the service page
Competitors
Which other businesses are named or cited instead
Shows who you are actually up against in AI answers, which can differ from who outranks you on Google
Accuracy
Whether the description of your business, services and location is correct
Wrong hours, services or locations cost you buyers even when you are mentioned
What kind of prompts do we run?
Prompts are written the way buyers ask, using your primary service and city. For example, for a plumber in Halifax:
“Who is a good emergency plumber in Halifax?”
“Best plumbing companies in Halifax for a basement leak”
“How much does it cost to replace a water heater in Halifax, and who should I call?”
“Is [your business name] a good plumber?”
The set is fixed per check so the same questions are compared across every tool, rather than hand-picking the prompts that happen to look good.
What fixes does the report recommend?
The fixes are the same fundamentals that help in ordinary search: make your pages easy to reach and understand, make your business facts consistent, and publish evidence that belongs to you.
Access. Check that search and AI crawlers you want can reach your important pages. Our guide on preparing your website for AI search covers this step by step.
One clear page per service. A page that plainly answers what you do, where, for whom and how to book is easier for a tool to cite.
Consistent facts. Name, address, phone, hours and services should match across your site, Google Business Profile and directories.
Evidence that belongs to you. Real case studies, reviews and specific details that other businesses cannot copy.
Correcting inaccurate descriptions at the source the tool appears to be drawing on, where that source can be identified.
The check is a snapshot, not a guarantee or a ranking. Please read these before you rely on the results.
Answers vary. The same prompt can return different answers depending on the person asking, their location, whether they are signed in, their history, and the model version in use that day. Your own results may differ from ours.
No one can guarantee a citation. Not us, and not any agency. The tools decide what to show, and they change how they decide.
Schema markup and llms.txt are not citation fixes. Structured data is still worth having for accurate business details and rich results, and Google says no special markup is needed to appear in its AI features. An llms.txt file is a proposed convention; adding one does not make an assistant cite you.
It does not measure traffic or leads. Whether AI answers send you customers is a separate question, answered with analytics, not prompts.
Who is the check for?
Local and service businesses that want to know how AI search tools describe them today: restaurants, home service trades, clinics, auto detailing shops and similar businesses that depend on buyers in a specific city. If you serve a national market, tell us in the primary service field and we will write prompts to match.
